In December of last year, we put out a plea to save Diesel's life. Our plea is below:

We can save this beautiful boy if someone steps up to foster him immediately. He must be moved before Xmas or he will not live to see another.

Diesel is 3 years old. He was brought to the shelter by a family that could no longer care for him. He did not have the best home because the former owner admitted to keeping him chained outside in the yard. Although, Diesel passed his temperament, he is hand shy which indicates he probably has had his share of unpleasantness with the human hand. The shelter is astonished by his pleasant nature considering his rough life. The shelter supervisor reports, "Diesel is one of the nicest dogs around. He is so sweet, always shaking his butt from left to right and smiling from ear to ear. He is a great representative of his breed! Diesel is one of the nicest Corso’s I've ever met; he’s just a ‘marshmallow’ of a dog!"

Contact CCR today, if you can foster Diesel: he may not have tomorrow. We must have a foster home for him before we can commit to taking him. Please help!!

Isn't he super stunning!! His gorgeous, shiny, black brindle coat has made it's debut! This big, handsome boy has a personality..... he is great with people. He is a typical Corso and does take time to warm up, however, he will be your friend within minutes. There is no changing the fact that his previous owners were not very nice to him, but Diesel still trusts humans. Some noises or new experiences make him nervous, but he recovers quickly and because of the amount of progress he has made in just 5 months, we are fairly certain that even this will disappear in time.

Diesel is GREAT with other dogs! He currently lives in a foster home with multiple other dogs, including 2 Cane Corsos. He also lives with a cat! Can you believe a dog that was chained up all his life could be this wonderful?! It's truly amazing and such a testament to how great this breed is when they are IN THE RIGHT HANDS! Diesel truly is a remarkable dog. He has also make huge strides in his house training. Initially, Diesel would get so excited with people that he would have little accidents. That has almost completely disappeared (THANK YOU Nixie!!!) and now he is able to go outside to do his business. This boy truly is phenomenal. Koa and Nikki- PA- SUPER URGENT

What a sad story. These 2 beautiful dogs have been owned by a family since they were babies. Nikki was adopted from CCR about 5 years ago. Koa was purchased by the family, shortly after they adopted Nikki, as they fell in LOVE with the breed.

BOTH are now in danger. Sadly, the family is splitting....... the husband spent 200% of his time with the dogs, but now he can't have his dogs in his apartment. His x-wife is currently holding on to the dogs, but she doesn't know them and doesn't care to interact with them much. To add more strikes against the dogs, her young son has developed allergies to the dog dander. So, now, Koa and Nikki get even less care and they are being forced out of the house.

This is such a sad, sad case... it brings tears to my eyes. When I tell you how phenomenal Nikki is, you won't believe me. She is so loyal, loving, and ADORES people. Now, she isn't very good with strange dogs, as she was reactive to dogs as a puppy. Her male owner put a lot of training and time into working with her, so she is 100% able to be controlled and handled. She has advanced training and really knows her commands.

Koa is less familiar to me, as he did not come from our organization. However, he too was evaluated to be a great dog. He is very typical of the breed, and very different than Nikki. He takes time to warm up to strangers.... Nikki is instantly your friend if you are a human!

Here is more info from the volunteer who evaluated both dogs IN THE HOME of the current owners. PS- Nikki and Koa are GREAT with kids and neither owner will argue that!! They have lived and interact beautifully with a 4yr old boy.

NIKKI
This is John’s and Ada’s 6 year old, female mastiff whom they adopted from a rescue at the age of approximately 1 or 2. From the first moment I met her, Nikki was very friendly and sweet. She walked right up to me with her goofy grin and just wanted to be friends. She did not seem to have much interest in playing any games like fetch or tug while I was there, but rather, she seemed more content just hanging out with the people. It is also very obvious that Nikki received thorough training on certain commands such as “come”, “heel”, “sit”, “lay down”, “around”, and “paw”. I took Nikki for a walk and would like to add that I am 5’1” and approximately 105 lbs. In other words, I am small. ;) I deliberately walked Nikki down the street and passed a house where I knew there was a dog tied outside. At first, Nikki didn’t even see the dog, but after a couple times going past, the dog barked and I was able to see Nikki’s reaction. She did bark and lunge, but it wasn’t even a forceful lunge and was VERY easy to correct with a quick tug on the leash. If I had to guess, Nikki probably weighs the same as me, or close, and she could’ve made handling her much more difficult if she wanted to. Since this was not the case, I made her sit and watch the dog, and after a couple, quick corrections, she understood what behavior was and wasn’t acceptable. Unfortunately, the owner of the other dog was not around for me to get permission to get closer to the dog to see if Nikki’s aggression escalated, but my gut tells me she would have been just as easy to control as she was standing about 20 feet away. Because of this, I asked Ada to reach out to you again because I do believe she over-stated Nikki’s aggression with other dogs and that it can be corrected if she is in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing (and is not intimidated by a large dog). Because of Nikki’s aggression towards other dogs, it was explained to me that it was just easier to avoid having exposure or contact (i.e. walking her at night when most people and dogs were inside) which, while understandable in some regards, didn’t help her to learn proper behavior around other dogs. Having only just met her the one time, it is very obvious that Nikki’s top priority seems to be to please her human and as I stated before, I believe this aggression can be corrected if she is placed with someone who has the experience.

KOA
This is John’s and Ada’s 4 year old, 126 lb., male mastiff whom they purchased from a breeder at the age of 6 weeks. As Ada had explained to you earlier, these dogs were more John’s than hers and when I first showed up at the house to meet them, only she and her son were there. I was introduced to Nikki first, which I already explained went fabulously. Ada was nervous about bringing Koa into the house to meet me and wanted to remove Nikki from the room - thinking that she was going to make Koa nervous with me. It took some reassuring to get Ada to just let Koa in with Nikki there and that it would be OK. I’m sure you realize that this negative energy didn’t help the introduction process with Koa go as smoothly as with Nikki. When he came into the room, he barked and growled at me (mostly growled) with his hair standing straight up on his neck and back. He then went down the stairs in to another room where he could still see me and continued growling. At one point, I called Nikki over to me, who happily came over and I started petting her. Seeing this brought enough curiosity to Koa to come and investigate this new person in the house. I made a point to avoid any extended eye contact and just let him sniff me (with a couple gentle head pats from me) until he decided that I didn’t pose an immediate threat to his home or family. At this point, we decided to bring both dogs outside so I could try to get some photos of them and see how they play. Since Koa still hadn’t decided what he thought of me, I watched him play tug with Ada and her son. Right before John had shown up, Koa decided my camera was a toy and tried to take it from me, I moved the camera away, which made him jump (not on me) and snap (not at me) in an attempt to take it from my hand. John showed up almost seconds after the incident (which was by no means, malicious, but could have been interpreted as such by someone who doesn’t understand). I was able to see Koa in action with his commands (same as Nikki’s) and he was VERY responsive to John. He was responsive to Ada as well, but not as consistently with John and he only obeyed my commands a little bit. I then took Koa for a walk - the first few minutes of the walk consisted of me walking Koa, with John walking a little behind so we could continue talking and he could help me if any issues should arise. NONE did. John even had to run back to the house, leaving me and Koa to continue our walk and he was very good. He tested the waters with me a little bit, to see what he could and couldn’t get away with, but, by the end of the walk he had established respect for me. When we returned to the house, I was able to play with him, pet him roughly, had my hands in his mouth (the worst thing he did was SLOBBER me good!) and he even rolled over on his back so I could give him a big belly rub!

My visit lasted approximately 2 hours long. I told John and Ada that I would like to come back again this coming weekend to see how Koa reacts to me when I first show up again as well as to challenge Nikki with other situations around dogs. They are both very good, loving dogs and by the time I left the house, I was a big fan of them both and really want to make sure they are placed in loving homes of people who know and understand how to handle them.

Horacio, or "the H man" as his foster mom, friends, and CCR volunteers refer to him as, is nothing short of incredible! Just look at this boy.... tall, muscular, attentive....

Don't let the grey muzzle fool you... this boy is NOT old. Horacio is about 3-4yrs old (some men grey sooner than others- he's just happy he isn't bald!)

Horacio is currently in a foster home with 3 canine siblings and they all do great together. H man loves his Corso foster sister. He and Abigail play and play and play. But, watch out because Rocco jumps in and plays as well. As you can see in the pictures, he does love other dogs. However, introductions are key. You see, Horacio hasn't always been in a nice home like he is currently in foster care. Nope, his old mom used to bring in strange dogs, often with aggressive tendencies, and Horacio would be tossed in the bathroom and left there for days and days. There were even reports where he was beat up by other dogs. Poor H man didn't deserve this and now he often becomes defensive with other dogs. But, as you can see... with TIME, EFFORT, CONFIDENT HUMAN LEADERSHIP and PROPER (did I say, proper) INTRODUCTION, he is a great with other dogs!!!

Horacio is active and loves to go on hikes. He definitely needs daily physical activity. Add, I must add, he is very photogenic (can you tell?), so you MUST continue to photograph Horacio and keep CCR updated!! :-)

If you are on the road often, Horacio would love to be your travel buddy. He has traveled around with his foster mom and LOVES the extra special attention he gets on road trips. He rides great in the car. Horacio isn't a huge fan of his crate, but he will respect baby gates, etc. We won't lie, he loves to lounge on the furniture, but just tell him which items he can't be on and he will respect that.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you his real story. The story is long, but conflicting. Sadly, upon surrendering him to the rescue, the owners admitted to keeping him locked in a bathroom most of the day because other family members did not like him :-( He also didn't get any exercise, for this same reason. When we first brought him into the program, his paws were covered in sores and not long after that, he broke out in a full body rash. How awful! Can you imagine?! When CCR finally got him into a CCR approved foster home, Horacio's spirit was crushed. He was depressed and an extremely sad dog. But it didn't take long..... the pampering payed off. Now, Horacio is a happy, active, sweet, and an oh so loving boy!

Though Horacio doesn't live full time with kids, he does visit with kids. He is a very good boy, but he does love to play. When Horacio plays, he is vocal and uses his body weight. So, he will not do well in a home with young children. Check out the short video of Horacio playing tug.

Wow, I never realized how BIG you were, Vladdie!!

Stella is a baby Corso, at just 4mos of age. She lived with her mom and siblings for 3 months and then was moved into a foster home where she would get socialization with dogs other than her siblings. She is doing well, though she does get rough with her small dog foster siblings. As you can see, Stella plays with dogs of all sizes each day. Her most favorite friend was her foster sister, Addi, a Cane Corso. But, Addi found her new home and left TODAY, so Stella is a bit sad. If you have other dogs and want a fun, active, sweet, beautiful, but definitely a dog with the Cane Corso temperament, Stella may be your girl. Marvelous Max- ADOPTION pending!!

Don't you just want to kiss me!

Max is a handsome, young guy who came to us from a shelter. The shelter staff loved him so much that they contacted enough people to get in contact with one of the directors of Cane Corso Rescue to ensure that Max found special placement in the program. Max was taken from his previous owners because he was not being cared for appropriately. We will be sure Max gets the love and care he deserves from this day forward. Max is currently being fostered in a home with another female Corso and a cat. He originally as very, very interested in the cats, but he has made progress in that area. He does well with both at this point. He is still very puppy, so he can't be left to roam freely in the house when his family is away. Max must be crated to keep himself safe and the pillows from being de-stuffed ;-) Here is what his current foster mom says about him:

Max is a delightful dog. Everyone who meets him loves him. He is a 125lb puppy basically. He will play fetch until your arm falls off. He has done remarkably well learning his manners and now knows several commands as well as how to act like a gentleman. We loves everyone he meets, has never given any problems with any other dogs and had even gotten much better with the cats. He will walk buy them freely without as much as a second glance. Max is a great guardian and will sound the alert when people are outside and I am unaware. When I am standing with him and acknowledge the people he just wags his tail so fast it's a blur. His potty training is almost fool proof. You can do anything to/with this dog, his treats, his food, he is almost bombproof. He has no aggression anywhere in his nature. Even though he HATES having his feet touched (we've been working on that tho) he simply tries to get away and he never has shown any sign of becoming aggressive.

Max is a great boy and he really needs a family of his own. Max is no older than 2yrs old and he definitely has puppy behavior. He would certainly benefit from obedience training and will learn so quickly. He just wants to make his humans happy! If you think you are a good match for Max, please apply to adopt him!

Thank you all for working to help save Bora. She is now in her permanent home. Yippee!

Please help us save this girl. She was adopted out from Brooklyn Animal Control and the returned her 10 days later. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. She will for certain be killed in a few days if we can't find a foster home for her. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!

SAFER test results: AWESOME temperament!!

Bora walks calmly on the leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, low wag. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language and was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Bora was relaxed when approaching the helper dog, but was not playful.

Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor's face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft or low, and a bit fearful.

Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed or back.

Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, soft body. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek.

Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.

Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you.

Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog to investigate, soft body, not playful.

Mr. Bill continues to amaze all his caretakers in rescue. This boy is so marvelous, we were able to move him into a foster home with many children and other animals so his previous foster mom could take another Corso who had an unknown history. We must also share that Mr Bill was quite the hit on the ferry he had to ride to get to his new foster home! As a matter fact.... lesson learned.... we will now ask for donations in order to be photographed with our Cane Corso Rescue Corsos!! Yup, Mr Bill was asked to take numerous photos on the ferry because he was so handsome and such a gentleman! Can you imagine how much money he could have raised for his fellow Corso buddies?!

Life is Good!

Billy is around 18mos old and he is truly a puppy stuck in a large Corso body! He could definitely benefit from an obedience class, as his manners are a tad rough around the edges. But, Mr Bill has such a rough start to life with is poor health, demodex mange, etc. Now that he is healthy and feeling great, he is all about fun, fun, fun!! If you are an active family looking for a LARGE Corso puppy addition, please consider Mr Bill. You will NOT be disappointed.

By the way.... funny story to share..... Billy's first foster mom bought him a collar that read "FRIENDLY" because so many people would see big, huge Billy walking around and they weren't sure if he was friendly or not. His foster mom wanted everyone to know that Billy just wanted to love them. The collar worked wonders! Good job, foster mom Amy!!

Hello,

My name is BellaDonna. I am a grey Cane Corso and I am even more beautiful in person!! So, here is a little bit about me. My previous family raised me from 10 mos (I am now 4yrs old). I grew up with kids, and a small dog (yup, how many Corsos do you know that are gentle with a yorkiepoo?!). I really am a good girl and I do love people. It takes me a few minutes to warm up to strangers (I AM a Corso!!!), but once I know you, I trust you. I am a typical female Corso, so I DO want to be the head female dog in your house. Because of this, I would do best in a home with a male dog or a more submissve female dog. Again, I like dogs (remember the yorkiepoo I used to live with!!!), I just want to be the boss. ;-)

As you can see, I am also good with cats! Another unique characteristic for a Corso. So, if you have cats, I AM YOUR GIRL!! Wait, back to my story..... so my Dad had to take a job, last minute, spur of the moment, fly by the seat of his pants. You see, he's a welder. So, wherever they need him, he has to go immediately. My mom said she couldn't keep me, the kids, and the yorkiepoo :-(, so GUESS WHO GOT THE BOOT?? You got it... I did! It's not fair..... I am the most loyal in the family AND I am the guardian of the family. I was devastated. Dad wanted to take me, but he said that a travel trailer is no place for a Cane Corso :-(

So, my Dad called the Rescue and asked if they would take me into their program. I got transported to an awesome foster home in Louisiana. The only problem is that I am a bit too much for my little canine foster sister. She just doesn't play with me like the yorkiepoo used to. And then, I just can't help myself... I antagonize her. So, sadly, though my foster mom thinks the world of me... I have to get into another situation where the other dog in the house isn't so stressed. Maybe I would fit into your family? How can you resist a gorgeous grey Corso that is good with KIDS, DOGS, and CATS?! Come on... fill out an application to adopt me!

"It breaks my heart to have to write this but here is a little bit about Bubbles for you.

Bubbles, approximately 1 yrs old, came to stay with us the week before Thanksgiving 2011 and settled in with us pretty much right away. We have a 4 year old puggle that did not take to Bubbles right away. But with time, they have become best of friends and are constantly playing. Bubbles also lives with 2 cats, though they stay away form her. Bubbles in curious to the cats, but we keep them in the spare bedroom (their own sanctuary).

Our family (I, my wife, 16 year old son and 12 year old daughter) took time to work with a trainer this past winter to help in some simple obedience. She walks well on a leash and will sit, lie down and stay on command. Bubbles, is a very gentle dog when it comes to food and will gently take treats from our hands. She does get excited when she sees us go for the treats as she knows what’s on her way.

Bubbles knows the sound of the ice dispenser on the refrigerator, she loves ice and will sit as you fill your glass anticipating getting a cube.

Bubbles loves to play, her favorite is a tennis ball being thrown and will place it on your lap and give only a little space for you to get it before she’s going for it herself. She also loves tug – of –war and when we start it she will pull forever, Bubbles even plays tug-of-war with our puggle. It’s funny she will let Buster think he’s winning and will let him pull her across the family room only to yank and pull him back with no effort.

Recently last few months Bubbles has grown very protective of us and seems to get her hair up when she sees anyone outside our family, not in all cases but more so with some men. When she is being walked now she is more easily distracted by others and other animals, we pull and change directions but it takes some work to change her mind.

We do not want to let her go but do not feel we can handle her in our situation and want her to have a good life with a suitable family that may make for a better fit."

Sadly, this is very common with this breed. People fall in love with the Corso "look" and/or the unbelievable loyalty that the Corso has for their humans. However, this is a guardian breed and they are super intelligent. They need confident leaders to clearly show them their boundaries. In addition, a busy household with strangers (non regular family members) coming in/out of the house, does not make for a good Corso household. Again, it is important to understand and respect that your Corso is your protector in the home. Until they know that a stranger is not going to hurt the family, they should be alert and fussy about that person being on their property and near their family! I am such a lovely, Italian lady.

Currently being fostered in NY:

Hello, my name is Rianna and I am 4 years young ;-). My story is pretty unusual, so here goes.... I am not your typical Cane Corso Rescue dog. You see, I lived with a family that loved me. Let me start from the very beginning.

I am truly Italian!! My human mom traveled to Palermo, Sicily to hand pick me from the liter. See, I told you I was special!! Now, this was the 2nd Corso for my family, so they really love my breed.

So, are you ready for the tear jerker part of my story?! My family decided to move. Great, no problem, I packed up my stuff too. It was a bit upsetting to see everyone packing up all their stuff. But, I just went with the flow. I packed my favorite bones, toys, blankets, pillows.... I even found bones hidden in places I had forgotten about (teehee). Then one day, a lady came to my door. I did my typical greeting of a bark at the door. My mom told me she was a friend and I let her pet me. She was super nice. She took me on a short walk and she talked to my mom for long time about me. She asked all kinds of questions, even really personal ones! Then, it happened. I have heard of this happening, but I never thought it would happen to me. Do you know that my mom let this lady take me? WHERE AM I GOING, MOM? I didn't understand. My packed boxes were still inside. I didn't get to say goodbye...... Now that I think about it, my mom didn't even say goodbye to me. And my siblings.... they just watched as I walked out the door :-(.

I know all that sounds sad, but honestly, I LOVE where I am living now. I was very sad to be taken from my family..... I never thought they would take everything, but ME. :-( But, it is what it is. My new mom keeps telling me that she is "just" my foster mom until I find another family of my very own. I really don't want to leave, but I would love to be the center of attention. Right now, I am living with another male Corso and a female golden retriever. I am not crazy about either of them, but I definitely like my foster brother better.

This is my "best" side! LOL

My foster mom says that I really need to work on my play skills ( I admit, my foster brother is scared of me. I kinda like it... ) BUT, my previous family never let me play with other dogs. Nope, anytime I would try to play with another dog, they would pull me away (my foster mom tells me it's because a previous Corso they owned, didn't like other dogs. So, they just assumed I wouldn't like dogs either). I would like to be an only dog, however, if proper training and integration, I could most likely be integrated into a family with a young, male large breed dog. But, again, I would love to be an only dog.

As for training.... I have a lot! I walk great on a leash. I am fully house trained and don't even have to be crated. I even know how to use a doggie door. I am healthy, current on all my vaccinations, heart worm negative, spayed, and READY to go home with you. Oh, by the way, my birthday is on August 6th...... ALL I WANT FOR MY BIRTHDAY IS A FAMILY TO LOVE ME!!!

Ebony is in need of emergency surgery for a broken tibia...she is in a great deal of pain and is not tolerating it very well, even with the pain meds...I will be setting up a chip in for donations...we have a very generous vet who will perform the surgery at cost, but we are still looking at quite a bit of money. Ebony has made monumental strides since I began fostering her...she lived the first 6 years of her life, bred over and over again, confined to a crate 23 hours a day, only to be dumped at the kill shelter when she could not produce....She came to me a frightened, untrusting, emaciated, abused girl who had never known the joy of living with a family...In the past nine months, she has grown to be trusting, loving and secure...taking full advantage of the love and faith we have in her (and of course the belly rubs)...with all the hurdles she has had in her life, this is just a small one for her compared to what she has endured, and we can't let her down...I will do all the work she needs to be rehabilitated, but we need your help..I will post the chip in shortly, so please be on the look out for it... Dogs living in BOXES in Ohio please HELP us help them

This will make you cry, so prepare yourself........ NO animal should ever have to live like this. :-(

These are BOXES... yes, solid wood boxes on 3 sides. The top is chicken wire. Terrible.

When they were "lucky", they were turned out in this pitiful "yard" which was ankle high in WATER AND MUD when our volunteers went in to rescue the dogs. Look at their shelter.... they ate through it... NO SHELTER AT ALL. These poor babies were trying to squeeze into this shelter and they couldn't even fit.

Poor Dad is so bloated. We are hoping and praying that it is only worm infestation and nothing more than that. We are very concerned about him and really want to get him to the vet. We need YOUR support to get him the vet care he needs.

As if the pictures don't tell you how horrible these dogs are living, let me tell you.......

These 3 beautiful creatures (Dad, son, and daughter) were living in filth, with no fresh water, and little food (probably junk of all junk). They were being kept in boxes for most of the day, but we are told by the "breeder" that they do get to go outside some times. Sure, in Ohio's heat, rain, snow, etc.... they have one dog igloo that has been eaten up. They have no shelter, no fresh water.

You want to know what happened to Mom? She froze to death this past winter :-( We were also told that the other 2 siblings died from accidentally hanging themselves on the CHAINS they were attached too. How sickening is this story?! Sadly, it's not the worst case, but it certainly is unacceptable.

We DO have the dogs. Thanks to fabulous volunteers who went onto the property with a family member (acting as a liason for the breeder) to get the dogs. They report that the conditions these dogs were living in were horrible and they weren't even able to see it all. As I said, we DO have the dogs. However, right now we are having to wait until we have enough money to vet them. We are mainly concerned about Dad because he is extremely bloated, has low energy, and vomits when he eats anything :-( The daughter is super sweet and eager for attention. The son is shy, but kisses you once he knows you. Please HELP us HELP them. All the money we raise for these dogs will go to a low cost vet to help us get them fully vetted so that they can be adopted to wonderful homes where they will never have less than the best. These poor babies deserve it. Thank you for your generosity.

Guru was left by a dumpster to DIE! He was found half dead from dehydration, starvation, and missing more than half of his hair due to demodex mange and a secondary skin infection. How can you not love this face!

Adelaide, Adelaide... you couldn't be more beautiful!

Does this girl look familiar to you? Sure thing.... this is the same beautiful girl that we had in New York, then Virginia, then Maryland, and now Texas!! Addi is a traveler and this speaks VERY highly of her temperament. Addi is such a fabulous girl and she will make a family so happy. Why hasn't Addi been adopted? WE JUST DON'T KNOW!! Well, actually, her TX foster mom wanted any excuse to get her into Texas. Mission accomplished! Now that Addi is here, her TX foster mom can really get to know her. Here is what her foster mom says about her....

Yes, I have been swimming in that pool ;-)

//Addi is NOT 7 years old. No way, no how! She is super active- runs, jumps, plays, SWIMS.... the list goes on and on and on. My guess would be that Addi is about 4-5years old. It is very obvious that Addi has lived a rough life on the streets or in a horrible home situation. She is covered in scars and her teeth have been FILED down to nothing. She is missing several teeth, but that doesn't stop this lovely girl from smiling! She smiles and smiles and smiles. She has already met two of my Corso girls. She was eager to meet them, but once the butt sniffing was over, she put all her focus back on me. She is a big girl, weighing over 110lbs. She is a hearty eater, but when a human gets in her line of vision, she will walk away from the food to come visit.

This is the coolest dog toy ever!

Addi loves everyone. She has met many humans- males, females, young, old- and she greets them all the same.... ears up, tail wags, open mouth, and kisses, kisses, kisses. She walks with a pep in her step and I have yet to see anything that gets her upset. She is an energetic girl, so daily walks are very important for her. Addi does have issues with her vision. She does not have depth perception, but has developed good compensatory strategies. She has an eye appointment coming up, so we will know more after the appointment. If my suspicion is confirmed, Addi will have entropian surgery before being adopted out. Did I say that Addi is wonderful? And OH, she LOVES, LOVES, LOVES her 11month old human sister! When she sees her baby human sister, the butt goes 100mph, she can't stop smiling, and she can't get close enough to her sister! Of course this makes baby smile, coo, and sign "dog", which makes Addi all the more happy. I think Addi would do beautifully in a home with kids!

Enjoy the pictures. I decided to take some pictures of her with her "tough girl" collar on. You have already seen her froo-froo girly side from the previous pictures of her in a boa and tutu. Addi and I decided that we could show you that she can have a tougher look too. heehee//

UPDATE ON ADDI: Addi has was adopted last summer by her foster mom. However, her foster mom came to the realization that if she keeps Addi as her own, she won't be able to foster for CCR anymore. That made her very sad and though she adores Addi, she felt it was best to let Addi go to a great home so that she can help more Corsos. So, Addi is back up for adoption. She has been to the eye specialist multiple times and she does NOT have entropian. She simply has never been cared for properly. She gets daily eye cleans (wish a damp cloth), a few eye drops in her eyes (very, very cheap). That's it. It's quick, easy, and cheap ;-) We are so happy about that.

Did someone call me?

Mystery was integrated into the pack! WOOHOO

Mystery is a fabulous lady. She is estimated to be about 5-6 years old. Dark blue (charcoal grey color) with a white splotch on her chest. Mystery LOVES to be petted and told she is pretty. She is very affectionate and kind of silly. She walks very nicely on a leash, she doesn't know basic commands, but is working on them now! Mystery is house trained and has had no accidents. It appears she has been hit/abused in the past and is hand shy, so positive reinforcement is best! She will make a fabulous pet.

It is pretty awesome that Mystery is as sweet as she is because we know her past life couldn't have been so wonderful. Mystery (the story behind her name) was saved by a good samaritan! Mystery was pushed out into traffic in the middle of Queens, NY. What heartless, selfish person would do that?! Well, it happened that a lady, driving her car (sitting in her car, rather) saw the dog "just appear" in traffic. She pulled over, jumped out of her car and grabbed Mystery. Mystery willingly got in the car with her. And there you have it.... Mystery has been appropriately named. This good samaritan did not know what breed Mystery was until she began posting on FaceBook. Word traveled fast, and we were contacted. Mystery will make someone a fabulous companion... she's absolutely beautiful and full of nothing but love to share.

Nice to meet you (shaking hands), my name is Zeus. Yes, I know I am good looking, but you haven't seen nothin' yet! If my pointy ear crop and sleek, Italian frame hasn't made you fall in love, my loving, loyal, fun, active personality will! I am the coolest Corso ever..... really.... I hear it all the time. I love car rides, people, and dogs.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am a Cane Corso and I am true to my guardian breed. Once I bond to you, I will be your guardian. That means, if I feel that you, or any member of my family or property is being threatened, I will warn that person/thing!

Let me tell you a little about me. The picture below is of me, traveling from MO to TX. Yup, I had a long ride here, but I do love TX. I have been in a foster home for a few months now and I have several foster brothers and sisters. I do get along with everyone. Someone asked me the other day about cats. Cats? What are those? Ask me about dogs.... I do love other dogs. My foster mom tells me that I would do best in a home with other dogs.

The story that the Rescue got about me is this (I will share no secrets).....A lady contacted a CCRvolunteer that worked at a vet clinic. This woman supposedly just "ended up with me". "My owner dropped me off to be babysat and never came back". Again, that is what the rescue was told. This lady tried to keep me happy but she worked so long and left me in a crate for up to 12hrs a day. I am ok being in the crate, but for 12 hrs straight?! Sorry, I wanted nothing of it. I will admit, I did do some destructive things. I ate some curtains; I moved my crate around; I ate the carpet. But, come on..... how would you like to be in a crate for 12 hrs a day? Well, what happened next is that I was put on medication to sedate me while my caregiver worked crazy hours and left me, a puppy, at home. ( By the way, I am about 2yrs old)

When I got back to TX, my foster Dad told me "boy, we are going to work on your separation anxiety". The first thing he did was take me off those nasty pills. I was a new man!! I felt better than ever. I was getting exercise, I got to play with other dogs, life was so GOOD!!! And yes, I am able to be crated and left. Don't get me wrong, I don't love it, but with a few clips on the crate, I stay inside! When my foster mom goes to work at night, I stay in my crate until she gets home in the AM. I am such a good boy.

I do know my basic commands. I do pull on a leash, but again, I just need some work. I am highly intelligent (I just learned that word ;-) ) and a quick learner. Again, I only want to make my humans happy!

As you can see in the pictures above and to the right....I love showing off my obedience moves for the camera. And that final picture...... well, I had to have some fun!

January, 2012 Update: Warg is a well puppy! His foster mom keeps asking herself: "who is this beautiful brindle boy bouncing around here?" LOL Warg has truly blossomed. Well, I don't need to tell you, let me let Warg tell you:

Hi, my name is Warg. I am about 1.5yrs old. Wow, where do I begin? If you have been following my story, you know that I have come a looooong way. I am costing the rescue a fortune (oops), but I have sworn to them that it will be worth it. I really am a great dog! My foster mom keeps telling me how beautiful I am becoming, now that my hair is growing back. Are you ready for my BIG NEWS??? I have no demodex mange anymore!! You got it guys, no more mites, no more stinky skin, no more scratching, no more MANGE!!! WooHoo. The lady with the rescue that my mom talks to all the time says that I am the quickest healing Corso with mange that they have had in the history of Cane Corso Rescue. She also said that I had one of the worst cases of demodex mange. Isn't that so cool that I am already done with my treatment! I am famous in so many ways ;-).

After a nice, long walk... awwwwww

Work, smerk.... come on, let's play!!

I want to tell you that I love to go on walks. I walk so nicely... no pulling, no nothing. I do get nervous when meeting new people. Don't get me wrong, I like people, but as you know, I have not always been treated nicely by people. It takes me a few minutes, but I do come around. My foster mommy has been having strangers feed me yummy treats and that works well!

Let the good times roll..... I have so much energy in me. I can run, play, and just snuggle on the couch now. I LOVE life. All I wish I had at this point, is my brother.... :-( I think about him every day. Can you believe they killed my brother? It's just so unfair (you know what I am talking about if you have been following my story). My mom promises me that I will have a brother or sister again soon. I think I want a sister.... YEAH, I want a sister ;-).

Yes, I do see you little kitty and I don't care.

I am a typical Corso with guardian characteristics. I protect my property and when my foster sister, brother, and I are outside in the yard, you probably don't want to approach. I am just being honest. You have to EARN my trust before you can meet my family. But, again, that's what a Corso is supposed to do!

As far as my medical future goes....... Though I don't have those nasty little bugs anymore, I still have some recovering to do. My skin is still healing. I do have a few bumps on my neck and back. As my skin gets more and more healthy, these will disappear. I don't need any special treatment, but I do need a little extra..... some fish oils, a high quality food (for sure, for sure!!), and a few extra moisturizing baths now and then. That's it! I will not be difficult to care for.

My ideal placement is with a family that understands the guardian breeds and WANTS a guardian. I need a lot of socialization, so I need a family that is committed to socializing me. I am just a baby and I have had a rough start. I need consistency, patience, and love, love, love. I will NOT respond well to harsh corrections, as even a raised voice upsets me. Don't get me wrong, I am not fragile and unpredictable. I am simply sensitive, wanting to please, and not wanting to do anything wrong. I also really need to live with other dogs. I would prefer at least 1 sister ;-), but I would be open to 2 or more sisters.

These guys make us all want to cry. HOW COULD SOMEONE....... Honestly, surrendering them to a high kill shelter is the best thing that could ever happen to these boys. That's how bad of shape they are in. Demodex is absolutely treatable and we can do it.... WITH YOUR FINANCIAL HELP! CCR can't pull any more dogs right now due to financial difficulties. However, if we can raise $1000, we can save them. We have a guardian angel foster mommy in Missouri who is willing to drive all the way to NYC to pick these boys up. All we need is boarding until Saturday, and some vet care to get them started. Next, we need a few hundred dollars to help Stephanie with gas. WE LOVE YOU STEPHANIE!!

Hi! I'm Aunt Mary - the nice animal control officer gave me my name. I was found as a stray, abandoned in the park, after what appears to be a lifetime of making puppies. Now, here I am in the shelter, just waiting and hoping that someone will see me and want to bring me home to rest my weary head in their nice warm house. I'm a mature girl - I've been around a while - and I'm pretty smart. That picture below, with my paw on the gate, was taken the first time the volunteers took me out of my kennel run. I went straight to the gate because I'm ready to go home. They said they understood what I was trying to tell them, but that they need to find a foster or forever home for me to go to first. Update! I'm in a foster home now. I get along great with all of the other dogs, I'm house trained, I'm crate trained and they are learning not to let my grey fur fool them - I may look like a senior, but I am still quite active, extremely agile, a little silly and love to be loved! Hi! My name is Valentine - my rescue friends chose that name for me because all I want is love and attention - even more than food. I was found as a stray. Someone dumped me off in the park after making me have puppies - lots of puppies. Now I'm in a scary shelter. Well, it's not so scary anymore - the people here are really nice to me. The volunteers come and and take me for walks, but I know my time is limited here. The phone rings constantly and animal control always has to go get more abandoned dogs. Soon, they will need my space too. I'm hoping someone that reads this will want to be my Valentine and bring me home - even if only to foster me and help me find my forever home.
Update! I'm in a foster home now. My foster family just keeps telling me what a good girl I am. That if every foster dog was just like me, the whole world would want to foster too! I'm quiet, I get along with everyone, I am house trained, crate trained, I walk well on a leash. And I'm just so affectionate. I'm very food motivated too and love to learn new things.

Hi guys, my name is Aristotle..... my foster parents call me Ari (isn't that an awesome name?!). You will never believe this, but I was found as a stray and brought into a horribly scary, dark, smelly, loud place in NYC- yes, NYC! I don't know how I made it out alive, but someone said a lady from Texas called and said she was absolutely mad for the oldies!!! Yup, oldies, but GOODIES!! ;-) Those TX women know there stuff! Anyway, back to my story....... so I was pulled off the euthanasia list at the last possible moment... yup, the emergency hotline and all. I was then put into boarding for months. Trust me, the boarding kennel was the bomb compared to that horrible shelter. Pedro and all his friends were so good to me. I didn't show any food aggression or anything. I really am a good boy.

Then Pedro gets the phone call that I have a foster home. What! A real family... a fire to lie next to? Really?! WOOT WOOT. I was headed to Pennsylvania the next morning.

My eyes tell all!

So here I am now.... loving life. I have 2 foster siblings... a Corso brother and a Corso sister to keep me company. I also have 2 human sisters that keep me busy. They are always loving on me and playing with me. My foster mommy even cooks me these meatball things everyday. She says I am too skinny, but that these meatballs will help me put my muscle back on ;-). Man, this is so awesome! Mommy also keeps telling me that it is only going to get better from here... she says I even deserve my very own family...... Oh, I almost forgot to tell you.... do yo know how I got my name? Mommy says that I am so super intelligent. She says that she has never had such an intelligent Corso come into her home. Jeez, I kinda feel badly for the other 2 Corsos here... and they are her's!!! teehee. So, I did calculate exactly how much pressure and force is needed to pop open my kennel door (also I figured out the right spot on both of my kennel latches to apply this force). But, no worries, I have never destroyed anything. I just climb up on the couch and take a nap until mom, dad, or my sisters get home. I really am a good boy!

So here's the big question: Do you want a mature, well behaved, obedient, housetrained, HUNK of Corso? I am all that. Now, don't get me wrong, I have had a rough life. I have the grey hair, calluses, skin tags, and scars to prove it. But, I am one heck of a boy and I have many years ahead of me. Please consider adding me to your family. I WILL NOT disappoint you!

Billy pulls on the leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment - soft body, low wag. He was calm and relaxed during handling and engages in play, loose body, wags tail, ears are back, mouth open. Billy growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. He was not interested in toys or rawhide and was a bit tense when approaching the helper dog.

Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Dog stands with his tail low and wagging, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving.

Yes, this is the same Jay. Doesn't he look amazing! Jay is so incredibly awesome. Who would have thought that this shy, scared Cane Corso, saved at the final moment from euthanasia would end up being a loyal, sweet, obedient Cane Corso! Jay is now living in a fabulous foster home and doing great. Do you know that he has NEVER had an accident in the house? Nope, never. Jay is not bothered by other dogs one bit, but sure loves all the attention he can get from his foster family. He is definitely getting settled and showing the typical protective qualities of a Cane Corso. Due to the fact that we don't have history of Jay living with kids, he will not be placed in a home with children under 12yrs of age.

Jay really didn't want us to leave his mug shot up (see below), as he's embarrassed about how badly he looked while in the very scary, loud, smelly, and dark shelter in NYC. But, his foster parents convinced him that all of you guys (his supporters!) needed to see how far he had come in such a short time. Cane Corso spent hundreds of dollars keeping Jay safe until a foster home opened up, but it was well worth it!! Thank you to all of you who donated towards Jay's care. Notes: Once out the cage jay is very gently when on the leash as well as when conducting the handling portion of the test . When playing tag he becomes a bit fearful but he still approaches the handler at the end of the game . He allows the handler to remove the food with no problem but shows no interest in toys or rawhide. When approached by the helper dog he becomes tense with a neutral tail then turns away from the helper dog

Look: 1. Allows head to be held loosely hold gaze with soft eyes

Sesntivity: 1. Leans in soft body tail waggingapproaches when game ends

Tag: 1. Follows at the end of the leash a bit fearful

Squeeze: 1/2: 1. Gently pulls paw away

Food: 2. Moves away from the dish with mild pressure

Toys/Rawhide: No interest was shown at this time

Dog to Dog: 2. Approaches a bit tense turns away from helper dog

Charlie is a wonderful, mature Corso who is looking for his forever home. Charlie is currently being treated for a severe ear infection and was extremely emaciation when rescued. He is now in a spectacular foster home in NC where he has gained over 10 lbs in the first two weeks. We will post more information on Charlie in the near future.
